U8 Information and Guidelines

for Parents and Coaches

OVERVIEW OF THE UNDER 8 IN-TOWN PROGRAM

The goal of the Under 8 program is to have the children become comfortable with the basics of soccer as they move up to the next level of play. This will include learning the different positions and trying to teach the children to stay in their positions. Working on passing, dribbling and other basic skills will be demonstrated and practiced. We will also work on corner kicks, throw-ins, goal kicks and the importance of working as a team. Most importantly, we will strive to maintain an atmosphere of fun and learning for the children!

Schedules

The Spring Season usually begins in late April. The Fall Season usually begins in early September (right after Labor Day).

After your child has been registered, they will be assigned a team. Your child's coach will telephone you to give you details. Game schedules are given to the coaches for distribution to the team.

Games can be canceled by the league due to inclement weather or poor field conditions. Coaches are notified at least two hours before game time and will attempt to contact parents immediately.

Game/Practice Format

The majority of games are held on Saturdays, with an occasional mid-week game in the early evening. Games are split into two 25-minute halves.

There is a 1-hour practice per week -- usually in the early evening. The coach schedules the practice time with the CYS Field Director at the start of each season.

Fields

U8 games are played at the following fields:

Spring – Bay Path vocational school

Fall -- Memorial Field (behind Town Library)

Snack Sign-Up

Parents are asked to take turns bringing snacks to each game. Your coach will have a sign-up sheet. Healthy snacks are encouraged, usually fruit (oranges, grapes, watermelon, fruit cups, etc.), granola bars, etc.
