Welcome to Charlton Youth Basketball, 1st & 2nd Grade Division!

The CYB 1st & 2nd Grade Program is an instructional “league” that concentrates on developing basic basketball skills (while having a bit of fun along the way). The goal for this division is to begin to develop basic basketball skills including shooting, passing and ball handling. Basic rules of the game will also be taught.

A quick reminder regarding our Saturday league format; it is not the league intent to include organized games or scrimmages at this level (the risk at this age is that game formats might only benefit the more skilled players and leave the lesser talented players confused and disillusioned). We want your child to leave the gym in a positive state of mind. Each week there will be “team skills” competitions at the end of each session. This will include shooting, dribbling, etc.

We want the Charlton Youth Basketball experience to be FUN for your child! To be candid, no-one from our CYB 1st & 2nd grade league has ever made the jump directly to the Boston Celtics...so we keep that in mind as we enter the gym each Saturday morning. We always encourage positive cheering from the stands and we ask our volunteer coaches to stress the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship every step of the way.
